General Reflections during course work part three

June 2020 and half way though course work 3. During the previous two courses I have kept to completing each exercise before moving on to the next. However I find myself recently setting up the ground work for an exercise and then moving on to start researching the next. Perhaps in doing it this way, it allows a break in the creative process and then returning to an exercise with fresh insight.

Perhaps with this type of work isn’t just about planning a set time frame for ideas and completion (although this is useful). Whilst keeping to a time track it feels helpful as well to have some fluidity or even relaxation to let the process flow naturally. A journey between planning and using the tools and processes developed in the course however also giving space for solution and resolving through experimenting where time is less of the essence. It is a continual balance of the process.

Of all the exercises in coursework 3, the one I became a little unstuck on was the exercise Giving Instruction: I feel I did OK with this exercise up to a point being pleased with the mood board and had some ideas around the stages I wished to demonstrate. However it became too complicated to depict at the level I am at and so I left the exercise incomplete. When I eventually returned to it, I did manage to resolve the difficulties with the design however only after I had drawn the completed images. If I knew I was going to be able to resolve it, I think I might have been more positive and drawn better images on the whole etc. I still do not feel completely satisfied with my final version of this exercise.

8th July – The third assignment is completed

Comparing the poster completed for assignment three with those I submitted for assignment two , I can see a vast improvement . I struggled with assignment two unsure of the processes. However in assignment three (due to the learning in the course and OCA Tutor feedback/guidance) I felt equipped to be read through the brief for assignment three and be able to generate ideas, establish the processes and follow through the theme and I really enjoyed the work. It feels good to have made progress and be able to see the difference.
