Adobe Photoshop Training

Although I did attend a local college photoshop training in January 2020, I decide to join up to another Introductory course run by Eventbrite. This is on-line training through Westland Place Studios, London on 9th November 2020

The course covers the basics:-

  1. On-screen work is in RGB (Red, Green Blue), but prints in CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black), so check prints. More colours, more cost in printing. Do a print proof before printing lots of copies.
  2. RGB and CMYK are “opposite”
  3. Photoshop is pixels – squares like lego-bricks ( no half squares). Anything less than 300 pixels per inch results in less quality
  4. Every letter on the keyboard contains a demand function. The letter is the short-cut (no need for CRLT button ).
  5. Can work with one hand on mouse and one on keyboard
  6. Viewed webpages eg Shutterstock,
  7. Reminded of copyright – need for a licence to use images or look for free websites.
  8. Looked at T (text tool), layers, choosing colour, selecting (marching ants!), inverse work, file save as, export as.
  9. Work flow – license, resolution, pixels – select, edit – export results. (do not compress)
  10. Remember to save work and consider back up hard drives.

Images:-

Browser web: gif, jpg, png, svg

Working file formats: ai, psd, RAW

Print formats: tif, eps, pdf

Sending to someone as original files as possible: tif, png, RAW

Illustrator saves as ai, photoshop saves as psd, indesign saves as indd.

When selecting photos to use eg from Shutterstock – choose high DPI as possible & high pixels as possible. 300 dpi is good print (digital 100 – 150 ppi).

I find this course helpful and feel ready to practice on photoshop. It is recommended that you practice even just for a few minutes when you have the time available.

Before attending Introductory courses with Westland Place Studios the expectation is to have the IT packages accessible for the training so this has acted as an incentive to enrol and download Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign. This took 3 hours however feels like a huge hurdle has been overcome.
