Reflections on Course Three feedback

Coursework Three feedback is so good to receive, especially as OCA Tutor could see how much progress has been made in this part of the course and the responsiveness to feedback.

OCA Tutor feedback is invaluable in being so comprehensive and thorough. I have taken a while to carefully read through the report and highlight specific areas giving advice on expansion in the exercises. It is helpful as the feedback explains details in projects which has worked well (so I can see what to take forward) and also how the work can be further developed in places.

I can particularly note how experimentation with use of colours, papers, textures would have furthered certain projects and choice of fonts, presentation and composition could have been demonstrated. Overall the feedback indicates that at this stage there is the consideration of incorporating elements of one exercise through to another. This is part of the learning process. I realise this is not about individual exercises to trial techniques however more about a cohesive response to the work, building up on what has gone before. This is where the course becomes more complex.

In part 4 the coursework is based on Style. So it will be necessary to really look at the presentation of the work, remember the guidance and look at design and different approaches. Glancing through this part of the course I do feel very challenged and will need to keep referring back to the feedback to help to find solutions.

I feel I need to look at the overlap between illustration and graphic design and indeed read Graphic Design: The New Basics more thoroughly and hope to access the book “How Posters Work”. The use of Indesign Package would be a new concept and it is whether I am able to technically develop its use in the Museum Poster exercises. So yes, there are definitely challenges ahead as I venture into Course work 4.
